Rating: G
Characters/relationships: Merlin
Summary: Acrylic on Canvas Board
Just a basic straight copy of a photo. I adjusted the colours a bit to make them more enjoyable as a painting (hopefully *G*)...the water wasn't actually that green etc. A chance to try painting still water and wet cloth, both things I don't think I've tackled before.

I'm quite pleased with some aspects of it, others didn't work quite so well, but then that's the same with any painting I think.
At the moment in my painting I'm missing...something...a bit of dash perhaps...it's all a bit stilted and pedantic. I need to loosen up, and get more painterly but without getting sloppy... (I don't know if that makes any sense, but I know what I mean. *LOL*)

I'm very much identifying with your comments, but from a writer's pov. We create, and the results almost inevitably seem rather mixed to our own eye. But aren't we our own harshest critics...? LOL! I suppose it's because see in our imaginations how it was supposed to be, but inevitably it turns out differently. Even if it's only because we've had to make choices along the way.
I think I know what you mean about needing to loosen up, but only because I often feel that way, too! I certainly don't see the need for such qualms on your part... On the other hand, without reflections like that, and the urge to do better and then better again, we would just be complacent about our creations. And that wouldn't be much fun for anyone!
I hope you feel you are moving on in the best direction for you. I love your work, so much. And I want to see more of it! But I also want you to keep feeling the joy of creation. ♥

(Mind you, as I say, it was a straight copy of a photo, so the set of his shoulders and everything was already all there in the photo. So I'd feel a bit of a fraud taking credit for that, I just noticed what was there and then copied it. *G*)

(And it may be a straight up copy of a photo, but you not only noticed the stance but managed to capture it accurately, (along with everything else) which is the really hard part. *g*)

The water looks so real, it could be a photo. No, it could be a film of moving water. Or just real life. It's THAT real.
Merlin looks so tense against the chill, I want to strip his wet fabric off and wrap him in fluffy towels fresh and warm from the dryer. I'm chilled just looking at the picture.
Amazing. As always. I wish I could adopt you and keep you for my very own.

I'm really glad you liked the water. I'm sure Merlin would welcome being wrapped in a warm towel, (though they do say a human body is the best thing for warming someone up, you might want to think about that. *G*)
I am open for adoption. *G* Will paint for food and lodging. *G*
